PRIVATE AND CONFIDENT I AL
Dear Sir Cecil Clementi,
140
Downing Street,
August, 1928.
Thank you for your letter of the 17th of
Auquet about the Hong Kong Water Supply.
We note
that it will be very inconvenient for you to come
up before the 18th of September and will arrange for
the discussion some time after that. In the
meanwhile wo are obtaining the preliminary
observations of the Crown Agents on the questions
of distillation of sea water and the construction
of a tunnel, and are also thinking over the matter
from the point of view of defence of Hong Kong.
The sessional paper to which you refer
has not arrived but we have telegraphed asking that
copies may be sent as soon as possible.
I will
let you have copies as soon as they arrive and
meanwhile enclose two typed copies of your
memorandum as requested.
SIR C. CLEMENTI, K.C.M.G.,
